The New Daylight Lounge

In addition to a great new study space, Western Libraries now has a popular reading collection on Wilson 2.  We’ll be featuring best sellers and other books of current interest in the Daylight Lounge, along with a selection of recent releases of popular films on DVD.  The funds for these collections come from money we make at our book sales.  Come in, check it out and relax over a good book!

Announcing LibGuides!

Western Libraries is happy to introduce LibGuides, a new way to navigate through the vast collection of resources available for your research. LibGuides is a wildly popular web application that assists Librarians in creating and organizing Help Guides designed to make the library easier to use.

Don’t know which database to use to find a peer-reviewed article? Need help searching for books in Summit? Trying to find a guide for your Marketing assignment? LibGuides provides the answers to all of these questions and more!

Western Libraries will be transitioning to LibGuides over the next few months and will be fine-tuning the website to make the guides easy to find. Eventually you will find guides from the library home page, MyWestern, BlackBoard, and wherever else we discover along the way. For now, the best place to start is the LibGuides home page.

Special Collections project update

Special Collections Project Update Oct. 23, 2009

The project is speeding towards its conclusion.  In the past week most of the cabinetry has been installed.  Today the top for the service counter was to be delivered.  Many of the lights have been installed and the painting is nearly completed.

Also this past week they have been working on leveling the floor where needed.  There was obviously some settling of the concrete over the years and in some places the concrete may not have been poured evenly at its origin.  This prep work will allow the beginning of floor coverings installation next week.

The main corridor, entry/exhibit space, and work room will be covered with vinyl.  The research room, offices and conference room will have carpet.  The collections area will be sealed concrete.

We are also expecting that library shelving will begin installation during the last half of next week.  This will eventually remove the piles of shelving hardware that have occupied floor space on 5-East this quarter.  Also on the docket for the next couple of weeks are door hanging and interior glazing.
